How hard is Devils Garden hike? ›

Easy Trails

There is no significant elevation gain, only moderate hills, up and down. The trail meanders through tall fins to a spectacular view of Landscape Arch. Optional: Two easy spur trails to Pine Tree Arch and Tunnel Arch are located between the trailhead and Landscape Arch.

It's also one of the most spectacular hikes you can take in any national park. You can hike the entire loop in three to four hours, but you could also spend an entire day checking out the area and relaxing along the way. In any case, carry extra water.

Arches National Park is a relatively small national park with a handful of must-see sights. With one day in Arches, you can visit these top sights and a few off-the-beaten-path places. After multiple visits to Arches National Park, including two visits in the past two years, we have learned a lot about this park.

Campground Specifics

Devils Garden campground is small with only 51 sites and 2 group sites. There are no hookups for electricity and there is no wifi or cell reception in the campground.

HuaShan, China

This epic trail to the South Peak of HuaShan, one of China's Five Great Mountains, is often billed as the most dangerous hike in the world, and for good reason.

The Devils Garden Trail has all of the ingredients for a perfect hike in Arches National Park. If you hike the entire 7.8-mile loop, you get to see eight arches! Along the way, go rock scrambling, hike along fins of sandstone rock, and enjoy some of the best views of the park.

Difficulty: Moderate. The hike up to the Saddle is easy enough for anyone with a moderate level of fitness. The final stretch up to Devil's Peak is steep and can be slippery if wet. The path is well marked and it's easy to know where to go.

Yes, you can swim at Devil's Bathtub! I did not swim, but I did see a group exiting the cold water when I arrived at the first of two aquamarine basins of water. What is this? When you reach the first swimming hole, you will see a waterfall and a crystal-clear basin that beckons you to come in for a swim.

The scenic drive in Arches is about 22 miles one way, so about 45 miles in total. You should count at least 4-5 hours to drive the entire road and make short stops (5-30min each) at all the scenic viewpoints. If you are planning to hike in Arches, you'll need more time.

Can you just drive through Arches? ›

You can spend a couple hours or the better part of a day driving the 36 mile (round trip) road through Arches National Park. With plenty of places to stop and snap pictures and panoramic views for miles, you can enjoy the brilliant artistry and majesty of Arches without having to leave your vehicle.

Cellular service is available in most towns and along major highways, but visitors will find many areas without coverage throughout the region. Coverage at Arches is spotty. Service varies between carriers. As a rule of thumb, signals are strongest wherever the La Sal Mountains are visible.

You can boost your cell signal when camping by either (1) using a cellular antenna, or (2) using a cellular booster. Both can yield similar results, though the former, the antenna, is often cheaper. Technically, the latter, the booster, works better in most situations.

Accidents and Deaths

Only two deaths have been recorded online from falls on this hike, and (surprisingly?) only one involved a fall from the actual bridge.

The best thing you can do when hiking is to remember the “golden rule”: treat others the way you would want to be treated. Here are some main points of hiking etiquette. Hikers coming uphill have the right of way. If you're descending the trail, step aside and give space to the people climbing up.

Hiking in Arches Can Be Difficult

As one of the most accessible national parks in Utah, Arches offers a great balance of mild and more-challenging trails. While the Double Arch trail is very achievable for most, many hikers are surprised by the difficulty of the Delicate Arch trail.

How long of a walk is Devils Tower? ›

The circumference of the base of the Tower is 1 mile. The Tower Trail is 1.3 miles (2 kilometers).

Can beginners climb Devils Tower? Yes! There are tons of routes for climbing Devils Tower as a beginner, and many that we love to guide on. With just a day or two of practice and the right rock climbing guide, getting up Devils Tower is no issue at all.

Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 4 h 28 min to complete. This is a popular trail for birding, fishing, and hiking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are July through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Crossing the creek was extremely difficult. Even with the best of waders, you are going to be going up and over lots and lots of rocks, both in water and on ground. After just a few creek crossings and up and overs on the rocks, it hit me—I'm old. My poor knees were screaming in pain.

Dubbed “The Devil's Bathtub,” the name fits: the 12-foot-deep depression in the creek bed is shaped just like a bathtub, and a small waterfall drips into the basin like a faucet.

The best time to visit Arches National Park is April through May and September through October, when daytime temperatures average about 60 to 80 degrees. In the summer, temperatures can exceed 100 degrees, which can make exploring the park's trails very uncomfortable.

1. Delicate Arch. The most famous arch in the park and quite possibly the world. This is on the Utah license plate, and people come from all over the world just to see and photograph this arch.

If you want a couple of long hikes, Zion. If you want a lot of shorter hikes with a couple slightly longer, then Arches. With one day in Zion you could hike the Narrows and Angels Landing (assuming you can get a permit) or you could do a few other hikes and stop at pull-offs on the east side.

The Hell's Revenge 4x4 Trail is a popular route, but extremely difficult due to hazardous terrain. It is recommended for only very experienced drivers with advanced equipment. It is not recommended for ATV's. The route is approximately 6.5 miles in length and takes 2-3 hours to navigate.

Can I enter arches without a reservation? ›

Yes. A timed entry reservation is required to enter the park even if you have an existing pass. Annual passes cover the payment of entrance fees, so annual or senior pass holders only need to pay the $2 reservation fee.

Arches National Park is generally open 24 hours a day, year-round. On very busy days, when parking lots fill to capacity we temporarily delay additional park entries. Visitors who encounter a closed gate may try back in a few hours or consider visiting other nearby destinations.

Non-commercial group fees (per vehicle):

Vehicle capacity of 15 or less: $30. Vehicle capacity of 16-25: $15 per person age 16 and older, not to exceed $40. Vehicle capacity of 25+: $15 per person age 16 and older, not to exceed $100.

Visit Arches from the Road

If you don't have the time or ability to hike, don't worry! You can still see many famous arches and rock formations from the scenic drive. You can drive the park roads and visit viewpoints to see some notable features of Arches National Park.

Averse weather, interference from building materials or terrain, distance from your nearest cell tower, or network overload can all contribute to poor signal.

The external antenna (mounted to your RV) picks up the existing cell phone signal and sends it to the amplifier. The amplifier increases the signal strength and transmits it to the internal antennas, which then broadcast the strengthened signal to your smartphone.

Cell Service in town is 5 bars, no problems at all.

The restrooms, drinking water, and outdoor exhibits are available at the Visitors Center 24 hours a day.

MODERATE/STRENUOUS (4.5 MILES, 2-4 HOURS)

Connects the main body of Devil's Lake State Park with Parfrey's Glen, Wisconsin's first State Natural Area. The trail follows wooded ridges and hollows through reclaimed forest acreage.

Enjoy this 15.5-mile loop trail near Borrisnafarney, County Tipperary. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 7 h 32 min to complete.
